As part of my commitment to working with you safely and ethically, I have a professional ‘Will’ in place, which simply means that if something unexpected happened to me and I couldn't contact you myself, a trusted professional colleague that is bound by the same BACP ‘Ethical Framework’ would be instructed to inform you. They would only have access to my present clients contact information and NOT access to client notes or previous client details. It is now a BACP requirement that I inform my clients of my ‘Living Will’.
Your personal information and therapeutic notes would continue to be treated confidentially and managed in accordance with professional, ethical and data-protection requirements.
These arrangements are not intended to cause concern, but rather to ensure that you would not be left wondering what had happened or without appropriate communication and support should I unexpectedly become unable to contact you myself.
Please feel free to email me if you would like any further information on this area of Therapeutic Counselling within the UK, BACP governing body.
